DAVE ROSADO SIGNS POLICY PROHIBITING ICE COMPLIANCE
Dave Rosado was “appointed” Sheriff by the former Sheriff who retired. Rosado signed a memorandum on his first day as Sheriff that adopted the sanctuary policy the former Sheriff had put in place - forcing his deputies to release detainees with ICE holds by midnight, even if ICE hasn’t arrived. The policy also banned ICE-only detention holds in the Chesapeake Jail.
Across the nation, ICE asks for detainees to remain in local jails for 48 hours. This has been the standard since the 1980’s. ICE does not have the ability to pick up detainees at the last minute. Even many Democrat-led jails have better policies than this policy was.
